THE END AND THE BEGINNING Elizabeth Willis Barrett…………………January 2018 Those who know me, know that Christmas has often been a challenge. I have written and spoken about it often. In spite of my determination to do otherwise, I succumb to frustration for all that is expected during the holidays and I […]
GET THE REST HOME READY! Elizabeth Willis Barrett………………Sept 2017 I’ve been thinking lately that I am doing a pretty good job of holding onto my faculties. I’ve got them in a tight grip because there’s no telling when whey will decide to slip out the back door and leave me for good. I’ve told […]
HITTING THE WALL Elizabeth Willis Barrett…………September 2017 This wall is the reason I haven’t done any writing for awhile. Who would have thought that such a simple task would take so long? It was the gathering, the planning, the re-planning, the brooding, the fear, the lack of confidence and the remorse for the necessary nail […]
MARCHING FOR CHANGE—MY OWN Elizabeth Willis Barrett………….July 2017 I have been changing through the years. In some ways, that’s not so good. I could do without the sagging, the puddling, and the petering out of my energy. But in other ways, change has been very necessary. It is time for me to quit marching down […]
LA FAMILIA Elizabeth Willis Barrett…………July 2017 Pimpinella, an Argentine singing duo, sings a beautiful song called La Familia. I would love to have that be our family’s theme song. Unfortunately, during my four classes of Spanish, I studied hard to get A’s on the tests, but didn’t practice having the words come out of […]
TO EACH HIS OWN…..WAY Elizabeth Willis Barrett…………….June 2017 A couple of weeks ago, some of my grandkids were spending the night and I was helping them say their night prayers. Each of the four knelt down, then put their heads on the floor by their hands. That sounds a bit odd. The way I’m describing […]
WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR? Elizabeth Willis Barrett……………..June 2017 Almost two years ago, we moved into a new home. The decision came after an agonizing few months of vacillating. It was very hard to leave our old home where we had lived for thirty- seven years and had sent down strong and supporting roots. We […]
FATHER’S DAY Elizabeth Willis Barrett………..June 2017 Since Father’s Day is coming up, this might be a good time to think about all the things I learned from my dad. He’s been in Heaven since 1999 after about seven frustrating years of Alzheimers. I miss him. Dad was always cheerful. Not everyone gets a father […]
ANGEL MOTHER Elizabeth Willis Barrett October 11, 2012 I used to squirm on Mother’s Day when I heard the rather sentimental speaker speak of her Angel Mother. Angel Mother! That term will never be given to me, I thought. It is highly unlikely that I’ll hear those words in reference to myself, but I have […]
Essayist and Connector
I am the wife of a wonderful educator, the mother of five great kids and the grandmother of nineteen charming grandchildren. I love learning, teaching, reading, speaking, writing, photography and music. I want to discuss a variety of subjects such as: menus for a crowd, depression, cleaning tips, childhood anxiety, ideas for family gatherings, syndromes, positive psychology, drug abuse and whatever else comes up in this quandary of daily living.
If everything turns out just like I want it to, this website will be a gathering place for friends around the world. We will learn together, share ideas and encourage each other in our aspirations. Hope you’ll join me!
